ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Tuesday night’s episode of ‘Jeopardy!’ featured a suspenseful moment when Ron Clarke, hailing from the small community of Chickaloon, became the champion after a rare tie-breaking question. Reflecting on his journey, Clarke shared that he had auditioned for the show numerous times before receiving the invitation to the Alex Trebek Studio in Culver City, California.
Before the taping on Sept. 1, Clarke paid homage to the late host Alex Trebek by placing two roses on his Hollywood Star of Fame. Although he trailed behind Greg Monson for most of the game, Clarke answered a Final Jeopardy question about 1980’s music correctly and bet all his earnings, bringing his total to $18,200—equaling Monson’s score, who had bet zero. In the tie-breaker, Clarke quickly recognized the answer in the American Women category as Condoleezza Rice. Clarke expressed that despite his winnings, the most valuable aspect of his experience was the camaraderie with the crew and contestants, particularly praising host Ken Jennings as a generous and intelligent individual.
