(Anchorage, AK) – Governor Mike Dunleavy has put forward nominations for 25 census tracts in Alaska for the upcoming federal Opportunity Zone program, which will initiate investment opportunities in both urban and rural areas starting in 2027.
Gov. Dunleavy emphasized the strategic importance of Alaska, noting its energy resources and critical mineral reserves, and stating, “Opportunity Zones will provide a significant tool to attract capital, generate jobs, and position Alaska as an appealing place for investment and business.” The program aims to incentivize investment in economically distressed locations, allowing investors to gain federal tax benefits when they reinvest eligible capital gains into designated areas.
These selected tracts represent various investment possibilities, including housing and redevelopment in Anchorage and Fairbanks, infrastructure in coastal areas, and resource development across rural regions. The Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development carried out a public review process to identify eligible tracts, ultimately resulting in 25 nominations that reflect the state’s economic priorities.
