Dr. Jharrett Bryantt, who has served as the superintendent of the Anchorage School District since July 2022, has announced his departure to take on a new role with the Alexandria City School Board in Virginia. In a message to families, Bryantt expressed that his time in Anchorage will conclude in early 2027, although he did not specify an exact date.
Bryantt described his tenure as one filled with challenges and significant accomplishments, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted the distressing financial constraints faced by the district, including a $90 million deficit that led to the closure of three elementary schools. The Anchorage School Board President, Carl Jacobs, acknowledged the uncertainties that a leadership transition can create and emphasized the board’s commitment to maintaining stability during this time.
