ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – On Thursday night, the four gubernatorial candidates of Alaska participated in the first of three scheduled “Debate for the State” events, broadcast live from the Anchorage studio of Alaska Public Media. The debate is also available on KTUU, alongside various public television and radio stations statewide. Political reporter Wil Courtney from Alaska’s News Source questioned the candidates, accompanied by Eric Stone from Alaska Public Media.
The candidates include Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a former state representative from Sitka, and three Republicans: former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson, former Attorney General Treg Taylor, and Anchorage business owner and talk-show host Bernadette Wilson. All candidates qualified for participation by capturing at least 5% of the primary vote. Lori Townsend, Chief Editor at Alaska Public Media, is moderating the debate. With Election Day on November 3, absentee voting by mail and fax has already begun, and in-person early voting starts on October 19.
