Annual walk marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month for Southcentral Foundation

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Research indicates that Alaska Natives face some of the highest domestic violence rates in the nation. On Friday, Southcentral Foundation conducted its annual event aimed at increasing awareness and supporting survivors of domestic violence.

Southcentral CEO April Kyle emphasized the significance of addressing this issue within the community. “What we know is that this is an important issue for people and families in our community,” said Kyle. “But we also know that when we stand together, we can help families walk forward in a healthy way.”

Chrysalis Dolchok, a Family Wellness Warriors Learning Circle Specialist and domestic violence survivor, shared her personal experience in hopes of helping others. “I tell my story publicly in hopes that I can reach just one person out of their darkness,” Dolchok expressed.

The event featured an awareness walk where participants carried anti-violence signs, marching on the Southcentral campus and concluding alongside busy Tudor Road, receiving support from honking drivers.
